    Polylactic acid (PLA) fiber

    Polylactic acid (PLA) fiber

    Description:

Polylactic acid (PLA) fiber is made from lactic acid derived from starch and is a biodegradable fiber that is fully recycled. This fiber uses no petroleum or other chemical raw materials. Microorganisms in soil and seawater decompose the waste into carbon dioxide and water, preventing global environmental pollution. Because the fiber is made from starch, its regeneration cycle is short, approximately one to two years. The carbon dioxide produced is reduced to atmospheric levels through plant photosynthesis. Burning PLA fiber produces virtually no nitric oxide, and its heat of combustion is approximately one-third that of polyethylene and polypropylene. LACTRON has the highest melting point of any biodegradable fiber developed to date.
